Temperature Effects on Plastic Hoses

Unlike rubber hoses, plastic hoses are highly sensitive to temperature changes. Moderate or extreme temperatures alter their flexibility: they harden and become brittle in cold conditions, while high temps near their specific melting point make them fluid. For this reason, plastic hose pressure and vacuum ratings are only valid at around +20℃. If the medium or ambient temperature deviates, the hose’s performance will decline—and it may fail before its designed lifespan.

Sunlight Impact on PVC Hoses

UV radiation from the sun gradually degrades PVC hoses over time, depending on exposure duration and intensity. (For example, sunlight in northern Europe is less intense than in southern Europe, so lifespan varies.) Adding special UV stabilizers can slow brittleness caused by UV rays, but cannot eliminate it entirely. These stabilizers allow continuous UV exposure; some of our hose models include them as standard to ensure longevity in direct sunlight.
