Safety Tips for Working with Sand Blasting Hoses
Sand blasting pipes, also known as abrasive blast hoses, spray grit, sand, or shot at high pressure to clean metal surfaces and remove rust. The force of these materials makes sandblasting a hazardous task. To ensure safety, follow these essential guidelines from Orientflex.
1. Wear Full Protective Gear
Always suit up before starting:
Wear safety glasses, heavy-duty clothing, and gloves.
Keep arms and legs fully covered-never blast with bare skin exposed.

2. Inspect Equipment Regularly
Gas tanks: Check pressure gauges and safety valves. Drain tanks every 2 weeks.
Sand tanks: Clean or replace filters monthly. Fix or replace any faulty parts immediately.
3. Ensure Seals and Ventilation Work
Verify that the duct hose and machine door are tightly sealed.
Turn on ventilation and dust removal systems 5 minutes before starting. Do not operate the machine if these systems fail.
4. Control Air Pressure Carefully
Open the compressed air valve slowly to avoid sudden surges.
Keep air pressure below 0.8 MPa to prevent hose damage or accidents.
5. Use Proper Abrasive Materials
Choose sand or grit with a size that matches your task.
Make sure abrasives are dry to prevent clogs in the hose.

6. Maintain a Safe Work Area
Keep non-workers away from the machine during operation.
Shut down the machine completely before cleaning or adjusting parts.
7. Never Misuse the Hose
Do not use the blast hose to blow dust off clothing or equipment-it’s dangerous and can cause accidents.
8. Clean Up Safely After Work
Let ventilation systems run for 5 more minutes after finishing to clear dust.
Inspect the hose and machine for wear before storing them.
